What is it?

Thesis Driven at Blueprint Vegas will look at some of the more complex financial underpinnings guiding real estate investors, owners and operators when they deal with technology and innovation. Sessions will look at OpCo/PropCo models, data-driven real estate investing, and how institutional owners are thinking about built world tech.

Drew Conway currently leads Two Sigma’s Strategic Data Science team where his responsibilities include serving as the Head of Data Science for Two Sigma Private Investments. Mr. Conway oversees all data science initiatives for Two Sigma Private Investments, including Two Sigma Real Estate, where he manages strategy and resourcing. He is also a non-voting observer of the Two Sigma Real Estate Investment Committee. Prior to joining Two Sigma, Mr. Conway founded Alluvium to bridge the gap between industrial machine data and the business and consumer users who use this data to make better decisions. He served as CEO and was the driving force behind the company's vision and growth, until its acquisition in 2019 (acquired by Augury). Mr. Conway is a former senior advisor to the Mayor’s Office of Data Analytics for the City of New York, and he previously served as an advisor to Mortar Data (acquired by Datadog in 2015) and YHat (acquired by Alteryx in 2017). Mr. Conway started his career as a computational social scientist in the U.S. intelligence community, supporting the U.S. counter-terrorism mission.

Bryan is a leader in the proptech industry with over two decades experience at the intersection of real estate, data, technology and finance. A serial real estate entrepreneur, Bryan has spoken at and collaborated with the real estate departments at Stanford, Harvard, MIT, Berkeley and UW, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences. In 2016 he co-founded CityBldr with Devyn Cairns, building on their work together at two previous proptech companies. Forbes listed CityBldr #1 of 11 companies transforming commercial real estate through AI.

Ryan Freedman

Ryan Freedman is an entrepreneur turned investor on a never-ending journey to bring efficiency and innovation to the real world. As a founder and General Partner at Alpaca VC, a venture capital firm investing at the intersection of the physical and digital worlds, Ryan leads investments with a focus on PropTech and Construction Tech. Select early stage investments include Compass (NYSE: COMP), Latch (NASD: LTCH), The Guild, Bowery Valuation and ToolBx; select later stage investments include Evolv (NASD: EVLV),Fetch and The SandBox Game. Ryan was a pioneer in PropTech, having been named one of the 15 Most Influential People in Real Estate Technology in 2015 and runner up for the Global PropTech Investor award in 2018. Prior to Alpaca, Ryan founded Corigin, a real estate investment firm with $600 million AUM. He led this firm with a lens towards innovation and has been at the forefront of analyzing and adopting real estate technology to enhance operations and investment decisions. To that end, Corigin had a reputation for building “micro units” before they were termed “co-living” and infusing experience and community into multi-family before it became mainstream. His obsession with technology and efficiency informed his natural progression from a real estate executive to a venture capitalist and leading PropTech investor.

In addition, Brad sits on the boards of Playcrafting and StageGlass and is an advisor to a number of companies including Breef, Stacklist, and Arrange.

Stacey Mosley

Stacey Mosley is the Director of Research at Brandywine Realty Trust, providing data driven market analysis, implementing new technologies to improve internal operations, and developing strategies to take on emerging industry trends. Stacey has spent her career at the intersection of data and real estate, developing solutions to efficiently identify redevelopment and leasing opportunities. After studying Manufacturing & Design Engineering at Northwestern University, Stacey applied her interest in products and process at the City of Philadelphia working on both the Vacant Property Strategy and Open Data Initiative before starting her own proptech company, Stepwise. Stacey is the co-chair of the Women's Leadership Initiative at the Philadelphia Chapter of the Urban Land Institute, a member of NAIOP’s national Visionaries program, and a recurring guest speaker at Drexel, Temple, and the University of Pennsylvania for courses in Urban Planning and Spatial Analysis.

Kathryn Scheckel

Ms. Scheckel is Head of Hines Global Ventures (HGV), responsible for identifying, accelerating, and delivering transformative ideas across the built environment and beyond. In this capacity, she oversees the progress and implementation of cross-functional initiatives at Hines that help push the business forward. Prior to this role, she led the Strategic Project Office in delivering firmwide strategies for complex, multi-stakeholder projects involving internal and external parties, reporting to the Office of the CEO. Since joining Hines in 2019, she has initiated the global relaunch of OneHines Women's Network, which strengthens and empowers diversity, equity, and inclusion amongst women at Hines.

Ryan Williams

Ryan A. Williams founded Cadre to begin to level the playing field in commercial real estate investing, leveraging technology to provide institutions and individuals access to previously inaccessible real estate and alternative investment opportunities. Ryan has founded and scaled multiple companies over the past fifteen years. More recently, he started investing in real estate as a student at Harvard University. Seeing the dislocation that resulted from the 2008 financial crisis, Ryan pooled funds from his classmates to acquire foreclosed homes in the Atlanta area, frequently working with previous owners to remain in their homes and eventually buy them back. Ryan also worked at Goldman Sachs in its technology, media, and telecom group, and at Blackstone in its real estate private equity division. Ryan was featured on the cover of Forbes Magazine in and has written extensively about the urgent need for social and economic justice for all members of society.

Based in Palo Alto, Michael Yang is a Managing Partner with OMERS Ventures, a multi-stage trans-Atlantic venture firm that invests in proptech, insuretech, healthtech and B2B SaaS. Prior to joining OMERS Ventures, Michael was a Managing Director with Comcast Ventures and previously a VP/GM at Yahoo! for the Autos, Real Estate and Health units. Michael sits on the boards of Landed, Clearcover, Crunchbase, PeerWell and WithMe Health.
